Wake County ARES Repeaters and Simplex Frequencies
(Updated November 20, 2004) General operational
procedure: This following is intended to be a
guide for initiating operations and should be considered as a
"tree"-start at the top and work down.
For obvious reasons, repeaters are preferred for county-wide or
multi-county operations, owing to wider area coverage and the absence
of "hidden" transmitters, but simplex frequencies also are part of our
plan. Your operational activities and planning should include
failure of any or all of the repeaters listed in this table. Be
aggressive and creative and maintain an open mind about resources - we
have lots of immediate and effective resources that can be applied.
When operational, the State EOC will monitor 146.88 for traffic from any counties within range, or on the PCRN linking system. The State EOC also monitors 3923 kHz (the Tarheel Net) for traffic from stations that can not reach the EOC via repeaters. In addition, Central Carolina SKYWARN conducts its nets on 146.88, and Wake County ARES conducts its regular Thursday evening net on 146.88 at 9:00 pm. If 146.88 fails or is unavailable, the backup is 145.39
(82.5 tone).
All operators should switch to 145.39 without further direction. When operational, the Wake County EOC and all field operators initially monitor 145.39. County field operations may spread to any of the repeaters or simplex frequencies on the list below during drills and activations.
If the 146.880 or 147.195 repeaters fail or are unavailable,
the backup is 146.64. All operators
should switch to 146.64 without further direction. Simplex frequencies. If you believe that primary repeaters have failed and you cannot communicate using any of the designated secondary/tertiary repeaters, do not waste time - go to the simplex list below, try to make contact with any station and build-out your network.

| ADDITIONAL
REPEATERS
Below is a list of repeaters that have significant coverage in Wake County, and may be used at any time for emergency operations. We recommend that you program all these repeaters in memory for all radios you may use with ARES. For a broader list of area repeaters, consult the RARS web page, and the SERA Repeater Journal. A MAP of these repeaters is on-line, courtesy of Paul Bohne AG4OO. This map works best with Internet Explorer, You can see it OK with Netscape, but the data on the left side of the map doesn't pop up (Java conflict). We appreciate the repeater resources that are made available to us, and we thank the club and individual repeater owners. All the listed repeaters are open for all Amateur use, including emergencies. We will conduct routiune nets and drills only on repeaters whose owners have agreed to that use. If you would like
a formal
ARES agreement, e-mail N4TAB. |
